Working as Intended

I was originally going to post this at the very end of the last part, but that entry was pretty much right on the border of length that I like, so I decided to flesh this little segment out and turn it into a mini-entry! There'll be very few snarky comments, just a whole bunch of screenshots of the fight. Which was quite the doozy, for someone so generally lame at JRPGs as I.

I'll just spell it out here. The enemy is the dreaded Penance. The superboss for FFX. 12,000,000 HP, and two constantly regenerating 500,000 HP arms. Under no circumstances should the arms ever get an attack in, and definitely shouldn't be up when Penance drops into his second form. If they're up, then he unleashes an attack that deals 99,999 damage to everyone. The End. While pros of the game can fell him with only the slightest of difficulties, I'm not a pro. So, this will be interesting!

On top of this, he has two attacks. One deals significant damage to the entire part, and the other is an attack that causes Full Break and drains them of all their MP. Full Break means that unless Dispeled (which also means you lose all the nice and required buffs), Penance will OHKO the poor character if they get hit again. Much like Dark Bahamut.

Right. I think that's enough of a set-up.














Welp, there he is!

All characters have maximum HP, MP, STR, AGI and LCK.
All Celestial Weapons have been fully upgraded.
Best possible armours I can craft have been forged.
All Dark Aeons defeated.
All sidequests completed.
It's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.

Due to all the nasty attacks, I unfortunately got into a situation with Penance, who only had 200,000 HP left, where both hands were just alive, but he had the next turn. So I decided to do the sensible thing and have an Aeon take the 99,999 attack!

Unfortunately, my finger slipped and I select Hojimbo instead of Anima. Oh well.




No big. I'll just give him 1 gil and he'll do Wakizashi or something. I just need him to absorb an attack.

It's cool.

At least I won 99% of the battle. And Penance is finally defeated~!
