Exploring Minecraft - Day Six

Sorry for the long-ish time between entires, people who apparently really like seeing me screw up in Minecraft!
It's been a rather hectic week for me. I've had an arse-load of work to do (and still have to do), and what free time I've had in the last half of the week has been spent on Raging Blast 2. But with my review of that out of the way, and me unlocking all the characters (still got the items, and the always fun online to keep me coming back) it's time to hop back into this wacky game and see if I can make my way home.

Day Six: It's Almost as if I Want to Drown..
Over the break, I've had a few discussions with friends about what I should do. The suggestion that was brought up the most was that I should just build a boat and sail my way back. While possible, it means I could lose the position of lovely ol' Donk Base.
Plus that would have been borderline sensible. So instead...
I take a quick gander out towards here my spawn point is supposed to be.
Also, zombies and spiders. Yay?
Mrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...
Where was I?
Oh, right! Instead of building a boat and sailing back, I will instead...
Build myself a tunnel that connects to two bases!
I believe the fact that I don't know the completely correct direction or the distance between the two bases only increases my chances of this going 100% flawlessly!
Uh...
A leaking tunnel isn't a flaw. It's a water feature!
And I did it again about 3 minutes later.
Well, while it's here we may as well take a quick sticky-beak out.
If water monsters were added in yet, I'd be shitting myself right now.
Later on in the tunnel, I ended up coming across a neat little cave.
Sadly it didn't connect to the Motherlode, but I can't expect everything to, I suppose.
It did come with a crazy-dark and awesome room, however.
A few lights later, and..
BAM!
Doesn't look too bad at all, for a 99% natural formation underneath the sea-floor.
Really makes you wonder what else is out there..
Oh, for God's sake.
Nothing familiar as far as the eye can see.
Not exactly the best confidence booster.
Yeah, it's pretty safe to say I've been digging quite a ways.
I think by this point I'm at least half way across the ocean/bay/lake thing I'm underneath.
At least it's been quite some time since I last bro-
ARGH!
I decided to swim up again and see if I could find anything.
The cobblestone block is so I don't get lost trying to find the way back down. I'd like to think that my sense of direction isn't that poor, but.. well, I'm currently digging a multi-mile long tunnel because I got horribly lost in the first place. So, yeah..
It looks pretty promising so far.
Hopefully I'll see some sort of familiar landmark in the distance once I reach higher ground.
